August 5 Meeting Minutes

Below please find the minutes from our August 5 meeting.  Read further for the August 25 meeting agenda.

1. Future advisory board meetings were set as follows:

• 8/25 6:30PM
• 9/4 7:30 AM
• 10/2 6:30 PM
• 11/6 7:30 AM
• 12/4 6:30 PM 
• 1/8 7:30 AM
• 2/5 6:30 PM
• 3/5 7:30 AM
• 4/2 7:30 AM
• 5/7 6:30 PM
• 6/4 7:30 AM

1. Ellen Klein volunteered to serve as Treasurer
2. Committees agreed to meet prior to the August 25 meeting and give a tentative status report
3. Leslie Coller and Alana Rothlein agreed to create a flyer to distribute to students and parents at the August 11 scheduling meeting to recruit potential committee members for the August 25 meeting
4. Andy Weiss agreed to solicit faculty attendance at the August 25 meeting
5. Committees agreed to create a tentative calendar of yearly activities with an approximate budget for discussion at the September 4 meeting.
6. Andy Weiss agreed to send a list of committee members’ emails to the various committees.

Agenda:

3. Set dates of all monthly meetings for 2008-2009 school year
4. Review previous committee and officer nominations and solicit floor nominations
5. Vote on committee assignments and officers
6. Compile a list of oustanding committee assignments and officer positions to be presented to faculty and students at the August 11 scheduling meeting
7. Coordinate committee meetings: each committee should come to the September board meeting with a tentative list of proposed yearlong activities and a very rough budget
8. New Business

Announcements:

1. Website is up and running (please promote to social networks, especially email subscription function)

Welcome to the website for the Scholars Academy Advisory Board.  Here you will be able to read meeting minutes and view the agendas for upcoming meetings.  As we fill out our committee positions, each committee will be able to work on its own website - Don’t worry, I will train you (or ask your kids!)…

Action Needed:

1. We need people willing to join the Fundraising Committee.
2. We need people willing to chair the Business Relations Committee and co-chair the Student Recruitment Committee.
3. We need volunteers to serve as the Advisory Board Chairperson and Treasurer.
4. We need additional members from all segments of the community, especially students, teachers, and representatives of the wider community.
5. I will invite Mrs. Sahwell to our next meeting to discuss setting up a College Committee.

Positions will be finalized at the August 5 meeting.  Please work your social networks to recruit additional volunteers for our Advisory Board.
